Strengthening Academic Ties:
Delegation from the University of Yerevan Haybusak Meets with Members of the
European Parliament to Foster Strategic Collaborations In an endeavor to consolidate
and strengthen academic ties between the University of Yerevan Haybusak and the
European Parliament, a prominent delegation led by the Magnificent Rector of the
university, Dr. Suren Harutyunyan, and the President of the World Federation of
Journalists and Writers of Tourism, Mr. Miguel Ángel González Suárez, held a series of
strategic meetings with influential European parliamentarians.
Day 1: Meeting with MEP Mr. Juan Fernando López Aguilar On the first day, the
delegation met with Mr. Juan Fernando López Aguilar, former Minister of Justice of
Spain and current Member of the European Parliament. The focus of the discussion
centered on the development of the Bologna academic and training program in
Armenia. Opportunities to implement reforms in university education, aligning it with
European standards, were explored. The active involvement of the University of
Yerevan Haybusak in academic projects supported by the European Union in Armenia
was also a key theme.
Day 2: Meeting with MEP Mr. Gabriel Mato The second day of meetings was dedicated
to the encounter with Mr. Gabriel Mato, a Member of the European Parliament affiliated
with the European People’s Party Group. The delegation discussed possibilities for
collaboration in implementing European programs in university education, with a focus
on the necessary reforms to align with the standards and criteria set by the European
Union.
Day 3: Final Meeting with MEP Mr. Karol Karski The last day of the delegation was
marked by a meeting with Polish Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Karol Karski.
The dialogue centered on the active role that the University of Yerevan Haybusak could
play in academic projects organized by the European Union in Armenia. Additionally,
topics of mutual relevance were addressed, and new areas of collaboration were
explored.
Cross-Cutting Themes of the Meetings Throughout the three days, key themes such as
the internationalization of higher education, student mobility, joint research, and the
contribution of the University of Yerevan Haybusak to academic development in
Armenia, aligned with European standards, were highlighted. These meetings represent
a significant step towards the integration of the university into the European context,
providing opportunities to share best practices, collaborate on joint projects, and enrich
the academic experience for both Armenian students and those participating in
international programs.
