Summary. The study group had miniaturized hair follicles, increased hair shedding, a shining yellow spot around the hair shaft, and an oily scalp, whereas the control group had normal hair growth patterns. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is important in the pathogenesis of androgenetic alopecia, but DHT levels in patients’ serum did not rise during the study. This study should be replicated in different regions and countries to determine the precise role of genetics and other factors in the development of androgenetic alopecia.
