Abstract. The author discusses the significance and current state of the institution of the president in countries with a parliamentary system of government. The functions and powers of the President of the Republic of Armenia are presented, controversial and controversial issues are identified. The role of the president in pardons and amnesties is covered. At the end of the article, the author gives his recommendations regarding expanding the powers of the presidential institution in the Republic of Armenia.
