Abstract. The Armenian carpet is an integral part of the national culture and one of the indicators of national identity․ The development of carpet weaving in Armenia, first of all, was due to the abundance of raw threads in the Armenian Highlands -wool, goat hair, as well as dyes obtained from plants, ores, insects. Carpet making in Armenia developed in two directions: in workshops where specialist artisans worked, and in the areas of the broad popular strata, in houses, in the homes of women and men engaged in household chores. The study of the artistic elements of the Armenian carpet and its ritual and cult functions shows that the carpet belonged to sacred objects.
